Handlebar Removal

Thank you Roger for the info, I will attempt to do this weekend as I have to remove the cylinder head on my 600cc Dominator first.

Thinking about it you should support the handlebars  as you are knocking the wedge out of the bottom of the handlebar tube.  You might also put some oil to help loosen it.

Hello again. I have now found out why the tapping of the top bolt did not release the forks. These may not be ABC forks . I eventually got out my Endescope and had a look down the column. There is a washer at the top and the bottom of the locking clamp and I cannot see a split, so no amount of bashing of the top bolt will release it. The washers are not loose and I cannot see any welding or brazing. I have now used loads of rust penetrating fluid and will leave it to soak in. I will have another go at it Tomorrow.
By the way there are lots of videos on Utube showing the cycle type fork removal.
